that Howard mentioned is an ITOC vehicle. You should see the rest of the truck. He has slowly replaced and chromed pretty much everything he could remove from the engine bay. Its immaculate inside and out. The engine bay is awash with chrome parts that you could eat your dinner off.

I don't like it, I think it's over the top...you'd be frightened to go off-road and get it dirty or damaged, nah not for me :thumbdown:

I had a good browse around the market 6 months ago. Had a good look at the mav/terrano but not enough space inside, as Ste says, a bit narrow and kept hearing tales of gearbox woes. X-trail makes a good family car but not a good all rounder, no low box and not much ground clearance(for my needs). Surfs, too problamatic and juicey and not comfy if tall and long legged(me). As I had a monterey before and loved it, it made sense to go back to a trooper. Didn't pay much for it, they make a few hundred pounds over a fronty but not that much. Tows everything I need it to, goes off-road where needed and transports family and dogs in comfort and safety. Seven seats when needed comes in handy. The only thing I would change for would be a landcruiser.

i had a maverick for a short while.lovelly to drive but real heavy on fuel and too many reasons not to run on alternative diesels.

Think most of the alternative trucks have pretty much been covered. However why not buy a v6 frontera on gas and have the best of both worlds

Cheap running loads of power, newer truck for you money :wink:

Only problem that i see is where you live and having lpg filling stations

I think and old guy up on the A5 sells it near where they cut the side of that mountain out a couple of years ago, not sure how far that is from yours may be too far?

Could always have your own tank in the garden :lol:

Or adapt it to take a bottle of propane! (been there done that) lots of garages sell them.

Hi all, what about a pajero, go for 2.8 (timing chain) pre 96 (manual pump for the bio)superb auto gearbox and able to run 4x4 all time, luxury interior,loads space if u remove 6/7 seats.look out for the one with blue snowflake(lsd,2 inch lift,2 batteries,heated seats.) Now why did i get rid,fancied more power, which i got and then some

But if i'm honest i do miss it. Heads can go due to poorly maintained cooling system.

Were I to change, I'd look hard at L.R again, (had eight Defenders before), but more likely at a Grand Vitara, or a Musso, for off road capability when I slope off shooting for an evening......................

..............And yes, even Fronty head gaskets go when the cooling system gets ignored for a while............

How about one of those L200 things with the box on the pickup bit?? Been thinking about one of those if I change my fronty as nothing else out there really appeals to me in my price bracket.

That Bighorn is the mutts nuts, a bit blingy/shiny for some, if it had a lil bit less chrome bits that would be my ideal troop.. its the 3.0 thats crap aint it? the 3.1 is the more desired unit to have IIRC yum yum.. should be on its original wheels IMO.

Can't beat an old jeep cherokee though, if you can get the diseasal version (think its a 2.5 or 2.7) they are good for 35 mpg on a run, don't know what kind of pump they have or you can run em on chip fat or bio.. I used to prefer the later "grand" jeep cherokee, the rounder softer version but I am keen on the older more square version as well now.

I take it that honda softroader crv thing or whatever it is called is junk? Keep seeing a lovely jap import for sale locally, more toys/gadgets than currys! I know it is most likely a load of poo off road but looks a lot of car for little money..

Five years ago I had a nice Grand Cherokee chief, only about two years old, then. Reversed into a bollard at less than walking pace, more like snails pace, and stoved in the whole Feckin' bumper. Made of papier mache or something?.......Not robust enough for me.
