As for my BMW, it's a 520d Touring, with an 8 speed automatic gearbox. Decent spec, upgraded alloys, all the leather and electric toys you reasonably need, including a little button that opens and closes the tailgate.

Some serious wafting abilities in the beemer, lovely big barge.. I would love an E60 M5 or an M3 Touring, I would hazard a guess you can cruise around 75-80mph at waay under 1800 rpm's?

Something like that!

I took it to Poland and back a few weeks ago. At 120MPH the engine was turning over at just over 3,000rev/min.

On a gentle 70MPH motorway run it will do 60MPG.

Amazing car!

Amazing is an understatement! I know everyman and his dog has a bmw these days but there must be a reason why say, the 3 series outsells the mondeo! Not keen on the 1 series (bar m1 saloon) The E60 got slated to feck by all and sundry but now on various forums its seemed to won people over..

Did you look at the 5 GT before you bought you 520d? Bit marmite in looks, there is one round the corner to me on a 60 plate, looks like a proper big bmw saloon should look. Can you remap it or would it balls up your warranty?

This is making me look through gumtree/fleabay/autotrader at older 5 series instead of another frontera... frontera or a big auto german barge for wafting about in?? Only thing that puts me off buying an old bimmer is the fact even though you can pick em up for a bag a sand it will still be a 20k car running costs!

Did you try out a manual or go straight for a slush box? Never thought I'd drive an auto but been driving an auto these past two weeks and I am a convert! sit back rest the left foot, stretch out and waft..

Ps your frontie looks good too lol!
