Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?Go out and test drive a few.
2.2 petrol is gutless, would hate to tow with one. Mine is great on the flat and offroad but crap when you show it an hill onroad.
Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?i had a 2.2 for my last frontera it went ok in the snow we had and the tiny bit of off road i did, the down side for me was it seemed to struggle to keep at 60 i think i may have had a dog mind ? or are they all like this ?

Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?if the head gasket goes on a frontera and you have it repaired and the head skimmed etc what are the chances of it going again ?
Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?I bought one!!
Have been off road, driven in snow and towed a Fonty and other cars with an A frame. No, I would say that its not especially fast but its quick enough and comfortable. - Yes I did rebuild the engine, then replace 8 bent valves after 4000 miles when the cambelt slipped I'm getting quite good at head changes now LOL! If your going to tow a lot, then get the diesel, on the other hand if the price is right and you are able to maintain a car generally then I dont see a problem with them.. Love mine as I am sure we all do.. Fronty B, 2002 3.2 V6

Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?The parents have one and its bloody useless especially if your gonna use it for towing. If all you want is something to get you to work during bad weather etc then fine otherwise I wouldn't bother
Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?there are lots of high mileage 2.2s running about so i would think as with any engine its life will depend on the maintenance it recieves, the head gasket might be the weak point of the 2.2 but once thats changed & the head skinmmed theres no reason why it cant go on for another 10 years or 80k, its been suggested not changing the coolant regurarly can be the cause of h/g failure but i also think its because the engine tilts slightly backwards as well, they usually tend to fail between the waterways on cylinders 3 &4, maybe its due to heat displacement ? the 2.2 dti has a weak spot as in the fuel pump tends to go, the cost of the repair for that is similiar to that of changing the h/g on the petrol so you pays your money & take your choice, obviously the more service history any prospective truck has the better, so as with any new vehicle do your homework & check the usual things you should be ok.
my 2.2lwb is pretty much as quick or slow lol as my 2.0 sport theres really not much difference between the two in performance but i think the 2.2 pulls better at higher speeds, 60mph upwards ! in an ideal world we would all be driving around in 2.8s or 3.2s , as long as theyve been looked after of course WHY AINT I GOT AN ALL SINGING & ALL DANCING SIGNATURE LIKE BOXY & DRIFTY ?

Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?Im sure the 2.2 petrols are prone to throwing con rods aswell but im sure i will be corrected if im wromg
Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?Yeah I would buy a 2.2 but it would have to be the 2.2 DTI one.
My Fronty thinks its a grown-up Tonka Toy [how sad is that] ?

Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?I would have another one,ok they are a bit slow and you have to mod the coollent system to keep them cool.

Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?ive had mine coming up to 12months and its had one problem in all that time that was my fault (cam belt) its been brilliant. not fast and not great on fuel but put 136bhp into 2tons of car what do you expect. expect the rocker cover to leak oil. but any strange noises walk away
Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?If you are board, and just want some time away from the wife, and have some money to spend, then just buy a 2.2 and have some fun
Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?have had my 2.2 for a week tomorrow, its been great so far am using it to commute to work it has the standard leaking cam cover gasket but hopefully will be replacing that this weekend. Not the best on fuel about 35 mpg but what do you expect for £750!!
I say get one,all cars have there querky little ways and faults, this is my first fronty but many years ago when i was working in a vauxhall dealership I did work on quite a few.

Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?I bought one...really cheap...did a few bits on it and got it tested...Sally and I smoked it around for a couple of weeks (carefully) and it visited the weekender in August with Sally, and then I sold it when it needed fuel putting in it!
Gotta say it drove nice on the road, but scared me such that I never took it over 3000rpm... Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!
click here for the SE Events Index/links Thread...see all the reviews and whats coming up soon! Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again... She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body... Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer! MAKE IT or BREAK IT! TEAMXTREME4X4 ![]()
Re: would you buy a 2.2 ?A goodn has a lot more power than you would imagine.....its just living on the edge thats the worrying thing
If VX had their brians in gear they would never have opted for that engine as they pushed it far to close to the limits from the original 20 litre block it was derived from. Ste
