I'm with Yaki there... It's all about what's on your VIN plate.
The allowed gross combined weight of a 2.8 LWB is over 5000 KG, so towing another one behind it on a trailer is perfectly legal, although then you will need the "+E" trailer license obviously. My mates LS400 is similar, over 2500 KG towing capability from a 4 door saloon car.

I used Parkers towing weight calculator a couple of years ago to find that my 3.2 LWB was only rated to tow 2800 KGS which was not practical as it would have seriously restricted the types of load I could carry. The guide had all of the Land Rover Discovery and Range Rovers rated at 3500 so I bought an LPG Range Rover for towing with. Just tried the parker guide and it no longer exists although there are other guides out there but it takes a lot of time to trawl throught heir whole lists to find the vehicle you want.

We have purchased a trooper as the towing weight is 3.3t monterey is less due to vx and isusu trade agreement?

I towed a 2.5 Diesel LWB on a heavy trailer with my Dti (As Yaki will testify). No idea of the legalities, but it actually towed it quite well in the end considering the last time I used it it wasn't too impressive.

Hi towing a 3.2 with a 2.4 on a tilt bed car transporter trailer 80 miles [private roads of course]
Insurance if a bad accident occured could be a worry.
2.4 has a towing weight of 2000KG therfore well over legal weight.
I have a sherpa 17 seat bus which can tow 3.5 tones and gross [from memory] of 5.5 tones.
Twin wheel LWB with 2.5 diesel.

Last week I towed a passat with my 2.5 Frontera.
It has an mot,tax, but no insurance as it had been off the road for two weeks and I transfered my insurance to the Frontera.
I rang my insurance company who said it would be insured as it was being towed by an insured vehicle.
I rang the police and they said the same and I even lodged an offical enquiry and took the number of it down.
Both prefered if it was towed using an a frame or a bar.
We used a bar which collapsed halfway to my workshop and we were forced to carry on with a rope...not pleasant.

Only towed it for about 10miles on a strop, was a bit hairy as the Bedford had no brakes, so had to be slowed by coming off the clutch in gear (the engine wasnt running so didnt start)....
Didnt stick out much past my Landcruisers mirrors, so that makes it alright I reckon in the world of redneck... :lol:
