Wouldn't you have thought that nowadays with all the power that modern engines produce there could be less gears than more. If your engine is gutless then you need closer ratios to get up to speed. Take my motor bike for instance, it will do 100 mph in second gear, so why does it need six gears. Surely a four speed box would be adequate. To reach and cruise at anything near legal limits means I have to short change every gear.
