Good deal?

A friend of mine, actually the guy who got me into Frontys and helped me buy my truck, is putting his 3dr Sport up for sale. It's quite old, older than my X reg, must be an A series I think as it has the old style dash, and is decked out as a shooting truck, and comes with a new set of tyres. I don't know much more about it other than he bought it cheap (I think he said about £300-400) a few years ago and did a few jobs to it to tidy it up. I'm sure he does all his own mechanical work and seems quite capable. I've only ridden in it once, and my memory is of it wiggling about A LOT at about 50-60mph, like a back end wiggle. Is that normal for the short wheel base?

He's asking £700 for it, the MoT runs out in Nov. Just wondered if thats a good price for such a vehicle? I might be interested in having it as a back-up for the winter, but think I would ask him to get it MoTd before I bought it.

What do you mean by old swithces?? If its pre face lift for 700 quid it had better be bloody immaculate

My Dave the shiny is open to offers at 875 and thats VERY tidy. If you want an old duffer for winter then you could my other truck FUGLY which will go for about 250 quid so you see there is a lot of scope in between those prices.

Sorry but mate or no mate I would say too high IMHO.

I have to agree hun, that is a bit expensive for an oldy.
You can get a lot newer one for that price.

Mind you, if it's a 2.8 it might be worth a punt at the £500 mark (subject to condition of course).

Thanks for all your opinions guys, I don't know much about the truck but sounds like it would have to be really really good for that money. I know its cleaner than mine, both inside and out, but I ain't paying for clean cos I'd only get it dirty in a matter of minutes! Thanks again :drink:

Hmmmm, ok, just got a few more details about this trucky....

frontera sport, petrol 2 ltr P reg it has had 4 brand new tyres which cost £420, brand new silencer exhaust which cost £115, last mot it had new brake pipes and fuel pipes, it's mot'd until november, it has fitted tow bar and goodmans radio/cd. At present the rear seats have been removed and a flat plywood floor fitted up to front seats (useful for straw and animal food etc) Still have the back seats which I can refit if neccessary. Immaculate apart from one slightly dog chewed seat. There was one in scot ads, same year for £950 this week. My price £750 no offers.

Does this change any of you views on what this ones worth? I never really thought a petrol 4x4 was a good idea, but can someone change my mind on that one? What sort of mpg do these things give?

MPG will be about 23mpg around town maybe a bit more on the motorway, but that said the 20L always felt like it needed a sixth gear.

I still think its a tad expensive as guys are getting 2.8's for the same money.

2.0ltr sports are really really really really crap for MPG around town !!!!

To be fair I think the geography comes into play a little as well. You are in the NE of Scotland where there are probably less to choose from which will obviously affect the price. There is no shortage of them south of the border which obviously makes them cheaper.

Some good points you bring up there, I'm not desperate for another car / Fronty, was just thinking that my car is up for MoT in Nov and if it failed, it'd be nice to have another 4x4 for the winter. I would defo ask him to MoT it though, would never buy a vehicle with such a short MoT on unless very very desperate!

You've got a point there re the geography, cars in general I think are a bit more pricey in Aberdeenshire, as is the general cost of living (often said to be comparable only to London :shock:

).

I think I'll wait and see how my car's pre MoT goes and then see if the guy will MoT the Fronty.

Thanks again for all your input, but one last question, do the petrol 4x4s pull ok both in snowy conditions and using to tow a trailer etc?
