frontys being written offIve seen a few of these threads over the last couple of months now so hear my question....why are fronteras being written off so easily by insurance companies these days...ive seen some get written off because they have had light frontal damage to the body work, can you no longer buy panels for the frontera or is it insurance companies cant be arsed with them because vauxhall stopped making them....
Re: frontys being written offNew panels are ever-increasingly difficult to source and the cost to fix them, labour and parts out weighs the price of the cars value hence they are on the other hand so cheap to buy back.
An insurance company are very reluctant to use second hand cars as they want the work they source out to have a warranty Ste

Re: frontys being written offProbably that new parts & panels are becoming scarce & expensive.
A frontera's value is comparatively low, and insurance companies will use prices for new parts when totting up the repair bill. Then there's the labour cost too, which can also be a big chunk of the value of the car Nothing to stop you taking the money, buying it back and doing the work yourself mind. Jim...

Re: frontys being written offWe were hit up the backside a year or so back. There was some damage to the rear bumper iron, which had some rust in it, so it cracked.
When I spoke to the assessor, if I stated that the tow bar had also been hit, it was likely that the truck would have been written off. Reason being that they would have had to replace the removable towbar with a new manufacturer part. As it was, they replaced the rear bumper iron, outer plastic shell (despite no damage), the reflectors, both side mounts etc. Any more than that would have seen my B written off, despite no real damage at all. It's down to how much they charge the insurance companies as well. The ABS light came on following the impact for some reason, they charged £75 just to read the codes apparently!!!!
Re: frontys being written offMy towbar got hit by a VW Caddy so they wrote it of because a new towbar was out of the question. Cost me £1 to fix it so i got my truck on a CAT D. It passed the last MOT with only a couple of advisories. Oh the Caddy was a total write off front end was up against the windscreen! Ha Ha!!!

Re: frontys being written offIts crazy the way insurance companies work. My Skoda octavia got written of a couple of years ago it needed both o/s doors and a respray but the cost would have been in excess of £1500 to repair so they paid me just shy £4000, confused yes i was.
The car was 7 years old no other damage at all, i had it for 4 years and had only paid £5200 for it. I had even told them i was happy for them to use second hand parts and not bothered about a warrenty and even offered to get the parts for them but nope no goer. It makes my soo angry
Re: frontys being written offwell on the other hand, your quids in that way, you get £4k, I would of bought the car back off them for what? £800 - £900, and fix it yourself, you would have made best part of £3k out of that one.
When my corsa got writen off (it was well bent though! pics below) they paied me £3320, about 9 months erlyer I paied £4k for it, so I did make a loss, but not as bad as I thought. They offered it back to me for £700 I think, around there anyways. But I didnt, and still dont have the skills to repair it so I said no, but I'm sure if I had the skills I could have repaired it for the money they gave me. Pics: (it looked worse in real life, but you get the picture ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I got hit by a corsa combo van doing about 25 to 30mph because he was eating a burger and wasnt looked were he was going. You can see that the B pillar got pushed in a good half inch as well as the cill damage, door damage, wing, alloy (had a chunk taken out of it), and the steering was way out lol ![]() My 2.8 shorty - now sold, and comments here My old dti - now sold "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW --- What a Ride!"
