does anyone now if the vegetable oil myth is true
has anyone tried it
and if so what modifications are needed to be done

Can't be used on the 2.5 buddy. I mentioned it a couple of weeks ago and Keith (Rifleman) said it would basically ruin the engine...or was it pump? Either way, not worth it.

There has been loads of debates on here about this mate.
To cut a long story short, dont even think about it.
Our fuel pumps are not designed to take the abuse, and its a costly replacement. :wink:

And there was me thinking that a double negative makes a positive, hence it might make a 2.5 more reliable!! :butt:

Seriously it aint worth risking mate....
A few years ago when you could buy 25 litres of new cooking oil for £12 it was worth a gamble on an old car as if you could keep it going for 6months you were quids in and the car had paid for itself several times over, but now its really not worth it. Older 4x4's are getting scarcer due to good scrap prices and hence more money for the ones left, and everyones in on it with the biofuel, so chippys that used to pay you to take old oil now want money for it...

Best advise is just drive it nicely and make sure its well maintained to give max mpg...try and stick to 65-70 tops on motorways and try to avoid stopping your 2 tonne car by timing it right with traffic lights...You should get a fuel return then that is comparable with some really fancy later 4x4's with all their electronic ecorubbish, only difference is that yours isnt depreciating by £5k a year!!!

*cough* if you drive a diesel you already stick it in, think the current mix is about 7% Bio content in the fuel as it comes out the refinery across the board "cough"

It is actually 5% which is the maximum any manufacturer will allow before voiding the warranty and they werent about that, plus it is not veg oil but properly made biodiesel made from veg oil which is vastly different to cans of veg oil from Asda. Basically it wrecks the fuel system and causes all sorts of issues which cost you money. there is no doubt that over the next few years there will be improvements to bio fuels but it has already been shown to be a blind alley and not the solution to decreasing hydrocarbon fuels, for all sorts of reasons. The real solutions are electric power for commuting and hydrogen fuel cells for longer journeys, for heavy goods, they are working on bio diesel type fuels, but the railways will come full circle for distance haulage and waggons only for local deliveries. it isnt rocket science and should have been started 20 yrs ago whilst fuel was still cheap, but thats the human race all over isnt it?
