Re: Monterey 3.2i V6 LTDThe 3.2 is a tried and tested engine and very rarely goes wrong. I would think there was an underlying issue here to make both heads go like blocked radiator or inoperative fan causing overheating and blowing the gaskets. I would think if you take one of the engines and rebuild it using the other as spares you would then have trouble free motor (engine wise). I would be very tempted however to double triple check the cooling and oil system is working properly and make sure the coolant is properly flushed and bled before using in anger.
One thing to look for before buying a potential clanger is all the body mounts and front and rear crossmembers. They have a tendancy to rot out. Another thing the Monterey is simply a re-badged Isuzu Trooper ... made in the same factory ... on the same production line ... using the same parts ... all from Tokyo. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771
Re: Monterey 3.2i V6 LTDthanks for info Ratcav will be looking to rebuild one of the engines from bottom up so will be as good as new as for the body and auto gear box will be selling as bits on Ebay
as for the engine and some of the loom will be fitted in my A SWB fronty and any thing els that i can use and bits that cant sell or use will be going in the skip monterey is such a ugly looking truck
Re: Monterey 3.2i V6 LTDGenerally speaking they don't blow the gasket, I got mine with "blown head gaskets" but it turned out being a cracked head caused by a faulty viscous fan. They are easy enough to rebuild but factor the possible cost of replacement heads into the build as they cost around 250 from a breaker
SHE MUST GET BIGGER BOOTS

Re: Monterey 3.2i V6 LTDRemember its the same as a Trooper. More of them about and for some reason parts cheaper.
Before you bin the rest I would be tempted to save some stuff as its the same as the Frontera and people on here might want to pillage ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771
Re: Monterey 3.2i V6 LTDCertainly worth it ... 4wd system like hubs, actuators, switches, 4wd ecu if SOTF. Check the VIN for G80 (rear LSD). The list goes on ... I would be up for pillaging as well ... but the 6 hour drive would not be too cost effective.
