Trying to find a vacuum pump

I am building a vacuum forming table and need some advise on what really to use for the suction side of it...I have tried a domestic hoover which does suck quite well but i think i need something a lot more powerfull than that..Question...Has anybody on here got a garden vac because i would like to know if they are better in terms of suction :?:

Any other ideas would be most welcome

Yep i started this project so i can take exact diff cover impressions using heated up acrylic sheet..Vids on on youtube gave me the idea..Done the hard bit today

If you have a compressed air supply, you could use a venturi type vacuum generator.

The unit (on this page) is a "pneu power type B" can create -1.0 bar vacuum (the particular application I used this for was a 205 litre stainless stainless steel drum of which it could evacuate 205 litres to -0.6 bar vacuum in around 8 seconds using a 7 bar main compressed air pressure.

Worth a thought if you want something with a bit of poke.

Going to try out drifts idea if i can get a decent unit cheap enough..Most of the high power leaf blowers/suckers tend to be petrol models which won't work for me as its being used indoors..Electric me thinks but are they as powerfull as the petrol versions ??

Inlet manifolds on car petrol engines have a vacuum to work the servo :idea:

Obviously you would need the engine running to get a vacuum but it should do the job, if you are feeling really creative, convert a gas bottle into a vacuum chamber, put a valve on it, hook it up to your inlet manifold and create your vacuum then shut off the valve till you need it :idea:
