Bum wiggle !

Hi folks,
Had a test drive of a 2000 W DTI LWB this evening and what was immediately apparent was a definite shimmy from side to side at the rear. It was less obvious when going in a straight line, but very noticeable when going slowly round a roundabout. I would have expected knocking etc from worn bushes, but it was totally silent. The seller made noises about wheel balancing but I wasn't convinced.

It also felt a bit sluggish, but the eml illuminated on start up then went out as it should and didn't come back on. The only other thing of note was the airbag warning light stayed on. I'm comparing it to a 1.9TD Multipla which was a flying machine , so it may just be that I'm comparing apples and bowling balls. :oops:

Should these LWB frontys suffer from bum wiggle ? And are they a bit flat ?

My 97 swb does that. New to the whole Frontera thing, so presumed it was a thing they did. I must be wrong.

Could just be the rear tyre pressures were not correct. People have so many wrong setting ideas.

Does yours not suffer from the 'wiggle' then Keith ?

mines got no wiggle what so ever, theres no wallowing on corners either which for quite a heavy old truck surprised me when i had a test drive, i didnt expect it to handle any where as precisly as it did :wink:

Yup, definitely a wiggle from both sides. A bit unsettling to be honest. They want silly money for it and have messed me about so I've blown them out anyway, but I wanted to be sure what was normal when I went to look at another one.

oh and its quite common for the air bag light to be on but its an easy fix by cleaning the wire contacts under the seats :wink:

It should grip the road well if it has road tyres on it mate.
ATs or Off roads not so good for wet grip.
No matter now though if you are looking else where.
Keep it in mind though for the next road test, check to see whats fitted.

the wiggle could be caused by worn trailing arm bushers,

you need to jack it up by the chassi, and see if the axle moves, by pushing one side

"bum wiggle" (new tecnical term

) is quite likely to be caused by a tyre "carbunkle" particularly if it is more obvious at low speeds :wink:
