Re: Should have known better!!!Good call, keep us posted.
Re: Should have known better!!!Right....me and Paul (who works for that well know Devon 4x4 garage) stripped the hub down this afternoon and found that the adjuster ring was loose.
Paul inspected the bearing and then put the whole thing back together adjusting the bearing correctly. Took the car for a test drive and no more horrible grouching noise. Obviously Son of alleged mechanic needs proper supervision from his Dad and lessons in adjusting wheel bearings. Anyhew...the good news is there doesn't seem to be any damage to the bearings or races and they definately did fit new inner and outer bearings. Only question i wish to ask is ...the inner side of the adjuster ring has a recess which i assume is supposed to be there as it seems to be the same diameter as the inner race of the outer bearing. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me? Paul raised the question of whether the ring should have this recess or not because the adjuster rings on Land Rovers are flat both sides.
