I've just tried to contact the buyer to warn him, but the dodgy git of a seller has withheld the username identity, as so no one can contact him other than the seller !!!

Thats standard eBay procedure for auctions. You can't contact the bidders direct, due to the fact you may tell them to stop bidding on an item or you will come round and break their legs. Or even better tell them the car they are bidding on is a death trap, that you know they have also been bidding on baby clothes and bits, and that they risk the life of the baby if they take them in that car.

Had the seller of made the listing private, it wouldn't show a username, just something like 'private listing - bidders' identities protected'

is there nothing the police can do

good point made Greg, if everyone who sold a car second hand had to ensure everything was perfect, either known or unknown problems there would be NO second hand car market. in this case we are the fortunate ones because the forum has made us and no doubt other visitors more aware of the issues on this one, we wont buy it except for parts.

as Greg says its the buyers responsibility to check things out before purchase. although i've done this and still bought some real stinkers!!, the best of which was a mini whose subframes, i subsequently found out, had been "repaired" with cardboard and underseal - but boy did they do a neat job of it :shock:
