MOT Tomorrow

Well its MOT time again. Not put this car through the MOT before, so hoping she will fly through.

She's one of the oldest Fronteras on the road (J Reg), and hasn't got that much wrong with her. I have just given her a full service, so hope that cured any problems.

She is a bit smokey and lacks power in the first 2 to 3 mins after starting. So I will be sure to run her a good 10 miles before going to the garage.

I'm also not to sure about the headlights, if they are correctly aligned or not. Does anyone know how to check this?

Everything else (should) be fine. Obviously I can't check emmissions at home, but hope thats not to bad.

As for your headlights, chances are if they havent been removed and refitted since its last test they should be fine...they dont normally move too much by themselves...
If headlight aim was off you would probably notice when driving anyway, so I wouldnt worry to much...

Just got back form the test, and the old girl failed.

4 Fail points:
Offside inner track rod end ball joint has excessive play
Offside top suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint.
Offside front drive shaft coupling is insecure
Nearside headlamp not in good work adversely affecting beam image.

And 1 advisory, which I didn't know could happen, or else I would have taken them out:
Child seat fitted not allowing full inspoection of adult belt.

The 4 fail points, one of them was near side, but came up on the notice as offside. Not a problem though, as will give the whole lot a good going over this weekend.

The drive shaft coupling was clearly out so will have a good look over that, and see whats gone wrong there.

Well I got the old Girl back up to the test centre yesterday afternoon.......

.......and she passed!!!

It worked out quite well, as the re-test was at 4, and I still had 2 ball joints and a track rod of the car at 3!
