exhaust manifold

what sort of noise would a cracked manifold do? would it be like a taping sound but not a metalicy taping sound?

That sounds about right. Remove manifold heat sheild and the crack should be pretty evident.
It would help if you put more info on your profile about your vehicle, it helps chaps (and chappettes) diagnose problems more easily.

id hope so, itd make things esier, do i need to remove the inlet manifold to get to it?

no i dont think so, its all on the same side

and uses the same bolts

It tends to be the 2.2 exhaust manifold that cracks.

mine was cracked got a new on on ebay wasnt bad price the guys on here gave me the link i aint technical minded so aint got a clue how to get it on but mine been fine since fitting new one im sure some one on here can get the link up for you dont know if welding it will work

If you do end up having to take the manifold off you should be very careful trying to undo the bolts as I'm pretty sure they have a habit of snapping leaving you having to drill the rest out.

Last time I needed one doing I sent it to the garage so they would have the hassle if it happened

I have got leaking manifold...2 broken studs, (2.2 v16 ecotec) evident by slight discloration of head directly above stud, also tapping noise exspecially when cold, having it fixed this week.....

Sounds right Prescot as when the manifold heats up the gap closes and its a snug fit.
