Cooling system flushing

Postby magoogriff on Sat Jan 16, 2010 12:58 pm

Get this one!

At my local garage they were going to flush out the water system on a car so they drained the system a bit and proceeded to stuff a quarter of a packet of cheap clothes washing powder ( co-op non bio) into the expansion tank filler hole!! On enquiry it seems this is a crackin way of flushing out the entire cooling system withour using harmful/caustic products. After getting the egnine warm and running it fir a bit the result was amazing!!The rubbish that came out on draining the radiator was mad-even better results if you leave it for a few days normal use. They do it all the time now!!

Anyone else heard of this one??

i use the old hose pipe too dodgy pratice that using soap powder it has the tendancy to turn into a gooey mess when cold blocking pipes it did to my washing machine when the hot pipe buggered up

i used the stuff that you use for descaling a kettle put it in and leave for a few days then drain and flush

as anything that that descales will tend to leave a deposit build up in rad or heater matrix

so its easier to just flush back through
cheers
