Had a big skid !! what to check for

Well it's happend I had a big skid last night :shock:

and I mean BIG :shock:

so apart from checking me undies :butt:

what should I look out for this morning

I know that I have got damage (not totally seen it all as it's still dark) but I know that I have lost my nearside step and both my front and rear bumpers have dropped by a good inch as for the body work well I spun out through a field ditch into a barrbed wire fence :shock:

then into a field.

for obvious reasons I know that there was a lot of sidewards movement first with no resistance (shot ice) :cry:

then through the fence and field.

I had a quick check over with the police last night and there was quite a bit of grass stuck between the rear wheel and tyre so one of the big questions that I need to ask is how strong are the VX alloy wheels (thinking of the latteral effect of the skid)

Also it bounced big style what needs to be checked suspension wise

and finaly should I claim on my insurance or try and fix it my self I know I'm going to have to pay out for the farmers fence etc. but how much damage is too much damage "if you know what I mean" i.e. putting a claim in and risk of wrighting the Fronty off
any comments will be very welcome

as for me well I cracked my left elbow banged me head and whipped me neck :shock:

so I suppose It could have been a lot worse

Some woman ran into the back of my Mrs car last night so feel you pain car wise :wink:

The fronty is a tough old bird, we hammer ours and they live on, clean the alloys and look for cracks.
Check gear box mounts, tracking on wheels may need to be checked, other than that you should get away with it mechanical wise.
Some guys on here even get the B series airborne when off road.

You right about insurance, if you can fix it yourself you will save a fortune in excess payments in the future.

I must admit it was quite a supprise thought I had got passed all the snow and Ice on the road took it off 4wd drove for about two mile then wahay I was doing an impression of "dancing on Ice, meets one man and his dog" :shock:

I just thinking about it as you do, for the possition how I landed it must have seen a bit of air but what I missed off the previous post was the tree stump that took out me side step :shock:

what I'm asuming is that the step just sheared off from it's mounts (I'm hopeing) as I dont want any chassis damage :shock:

anyway hope your wife is ok plus whoever was in the car at the time,

what supprised me was when I spoke to the police and sujested contacting Aberdeenshire council for getting the gritters out they just laughed (Aberdeenshire seemingly are nearly out of grit :shock:

Hi glad your ok. I wrote mine off a couple of months ago and the insuranse company sold it back to me for £82 and gave me a nice big cheque. I put it back on the road for the pricey sum of £1 so it goes to show how hard they are. The van that hit me was a total write off "He He" Have a good un mate and hope there's not to much damage.

hey up glad you are ok there. thay are a hard old truck even the crusher that comes to the scrappy (were i help out some times) struggles with the chassis. so it should be ok

Sorry to hear about your troubles , I know when I went through a barb wire fence , it had ripped all the break cables out, I wouldn't of thought if you just hit a wire fence that it would of cause too much damage, but then I could be wrong..

Well I have had a good try to see any problems and damage it look's like I have been lucky as it's more body work damage both front and rear bumpers are moveable but thankfully not loose my bull bar at the front has a few crack's and about a third of the paint scraped off the wheels look ok no crack's seen. so it look's like I have had a close call

But the fun I had today was getting back in it and driving it in snow and on ice not that I'm a sadeist but I was always told if you faal off your bike you get stright back on it well it's the same with this I suppose
