? LSD how do you tell

Right the other day I had to go and pick the wife up from work in donig so I was on the normal route i.e. 20% inclines and 30% acents as wel as the good old hair pin.

well it was on this hairpin that I noticed something and that was when I got round I had one of the wheels spinning/skipping still plenty of grip but due to the conditions I heard one of the rear wheel's skipping/spinning :shock:

so after dropping her off I went and found some ice backed on to it with just one of the rear wheels put it into drive and put me foot down thinking that if it was a normal diff then the one on the ice would spin out, it didn't it just kicked up the ice and drove off

but the thing is I know that if it was factory fitted there would be additional numbers on vin plate but what if it has been fitted by the previous owner!!!!!
so what do I look for to check if I have got a limited slip diff

as per usual any info would be greatfully recieved

If its a LSD mate it should have the G80 code on the options plate on your car.. :wink:

Choc up front wheels, jack up rear wheels, take off hand brake and gears in neutral then turn one rear wheel by hand and if the other wheel turns the same way you have LSD if the other wheel goes the oposite direction you have an open diff

Oh and LSD is scary on ice and snow :shock:

Jack both back wheels clear of the ground,spin a wheel & watch the other,if they spin opposite it is open diff,however if they spin the same way then you have LSD :wink:

Well I'm waiting for the flashplayer to update but just thinking about it when I have played alittle the back end has always felt different as in, you know when your in a normal car and have to go on a verge because of some idiot wanting the whole road then you take off again and you nornally get a bit of spin with the wheel that is on the verge well just thinking about it with me Fronty I have never had that I to be honest never gave it much thought and thought that it was just because of the size and with it being 4 wheel drive etc.

Yep that vid looked a like some thing that I have encounterd not the dounuts

but the diagernal reversing / power sliding just thought it was a querqe of me Fronty

I mentioned in a post about being impressed how my fornty handled but I also mentioned that i made a mistake it the driving well the driving diagernal was what I was doing up a 30% hill :oops:

Yep the options plate is the one with all the groups of numbers & letters,there is no difference in the casing,however if it has not been touched since leaving the factory there will be one or possibly two tags on the cover bolts,one always present is the ratio tag & if there two is the LSD indicator tag :wink:

Thanks A friend for that just waiting for the hail to stop it's not nice when it whipps you and then dispite being well coverd you always get some that manages to find its way down the back of your neck :lol:
