i noticed a local swb on ebay over the weekend that despite a low opening bid it didnt sell, i had sent a massage to the owner concerning the full details, the present owner has had it for 4 years,its taxed & tested, so i took a drive past it this morning for a closer look, it wasnt in too bad nick for an n reg so i arranged for a look around it this afternoon, ive never sat in an a series swb before so this was the ideal time to give it a try :wink: i must admit there seemed to be more room behind the wheel than my b & i can see myself in 1 in the future but maybe not this 1.

the owner started her up & immediately i noticed a quite loud clattering type sound coming from the top end of the engine :| infact it sounded more like it was a diesel & not petrol ! i also noticed on start up bubbles appearing in the expansion tank which seemed to of stopped once the engine had warmed up which i might add took what seemed like ages compared to my 2.2.

so any ideas on the engine clatter & is it usual for bubbles in the exp tank when starting from cold ?

it might need an oil change as there hydraulic tappets :drink:

sounds like headgasket causing bubbles in headertank and seals off when hot

there is much more legroom in a swb A compared to the B but it sacrifices boot space
