Hi all,
Was pondering on replacing my 2.0l sport engine with a 2.8 TDI.
How hard would this be to do and is there any serious issues to take into account.
As always any input/advice will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers guys.

You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, But you can't pick your friends nose. If Rock n ' Roll was to be named something else, It would be called Chuck Berry.
Re: Engine SwapIt has been done by rangakoo .......... viewtopic.php?f=46&t=15688&start=0
I don`t think there is an actual write up but if you do a search on his posts you will get an idea what you are up against
Re: Engine SwapAlso on that one he used the gearbox that came with the engine, but also needs to change his axels the same as Rangakoo as well cos the ratio's are all wrong and the prop shaft is different sizes.
A lot of hassle and prob cheaper to just buy a 2.8 already fitted, or just live with the lack of power and use a run up 2000 Frontera 2.2 DTi Ltd
Re: Engine SwapAnd the wiring loom/dasboard differences caused a headache,as did having the car offroad for several weeks
As above, unless you have the complete 2.8 SWB to rob bits from as you go,you could do a lot worse than look at Stu`s car in the for sale section
Re: Engine Swapgearboxes tend to have wider ratios for diesels due to them being a lower revving engine so I would get a matching gearbox aswell. The diffs also have different rations but I cant see these being much of a problem. Would probably give you a bit more low end torque.
Diff Ratios: 5.13/1 - 2litre petrol 4.56/1 - 2.8 Turbo Diesel

Re: Engine SwapThanks for all the input guys.
Not going to buy another complete fronty as i'm happy with the work i've done to mine so far, gutted the swaps such a big job though. Oh well. Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train,

Re: Engine Swapwhy not put a bigger petrol engine in instead? Get a 2 litre 16v ecotech. Just classed as a modified engine then instead of increased capacity and should be a straight swap bar the engine electrics which are simple anyway. IIRC X20XEV is 136BHP as opposed to C20NE 115BHP. If you could find an old cavalier SRI with the C20SEH engine you could swap the ECU onto yours for an extra 15BHP. I would personally go for 16v engine though. Good luck in whatever you decide
Re: Engine SwapWhat about a 1999 Vauxhall Frontera 3.2 V6?
Would that fit?? Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train,
