Rusty spanners

help found a load of rusty spanners that i want to bring back from the dead, should i soak them in petrol or have you any better ideas :cry:

try wd40 or soak them in coke just dont drink it afterwards

Vinegar, is quite effective I believe.

You could try WD40 then use a metal wire wool to remove the rust.

well they where chromb , now covered in rusty powder and sludge after something must have leeked on them a few years past

If you have a cement mixer water and sand mix will clean them up, removing loose chrome and rust.
Then oil or paint, i did some of mine and painted imperial one colour metric another,

I used WD40 and wire wool on mine. After they have been used a bit they seem to shine up a bit and have that used look about them.

Been waiting to come across a thread like this:::::
All you need to get RUST OFF anything is Dead Easy, no WORK required::

1/ A plastic bucket: (Cannot be Metal)

2/ A NEW piece of Steel:

3/ A 12 Volt Battery or Battery charger:

4/ Baking SODA:

The POSITIVE goes to the NEW Steel: The NEGATIVE to the Rusty (PART):<> (Which must have good Contact):
Put A Cane or piece of wood across the bucket to support the NEW Steel and PART to be Derusted: String will do.
Fill Bucket with TAP water, put one big heaped TABLESPOON of Baking Soda in the bucket: CONNECT WIRES to Both Parts:
(Better if it is a Battery charger try to keep clips out of the water):::
This Idea works with LINE OF SIGHT,,, So if the Part is round CURL the NEW Steel to suit the Rusty part All Round:::
Over a few hours the rust will LEAVE the Rusty Part and ATTACHE its`self to the new metal:::
The RUSTY part will OXODISE to DEEP BLACK, it must be WIPED with ,, Like,, Paper Kitchen Towel and dried you can use a hair Drier then, BUT, ::: IT MUST BE PROTECTED "IMMEADIATLY" as it will try to turn rusty again:
I did this with some Headlight Backs once as they were very thin, they come up like brand NEW::
Even if you do not Require to use this,, TRY IT, you will be amazed how it turns out.. :shock:

Do Not forget >>>>>> PROTECT it quickly, once dry UNDERCOAT/PAINT/ or /OIL/Grease/..
It will be like Brand NEW.. Hope you understand what I have Written:

PS::: Been So long since I did this not sure which way the Polarity is, but it doesn`t matter a couple of hours will tell you if its working if not REVERSE the Leads.. :oops:

Hi Mate,Funnily enough years ago they used to use this method as a (SLAVE) to rot away, so your car did not..
