Replacing turbos

Put this on general discussion because it is NOT Frontera related.
Mate of mine his selling his Audi A6 2.5 turbo diesel - it's on a R reg with 176,000 motorway miles on the clock.
Problem is turbo is overboosting, with a build up of oil near the engine filter (it's positioned on the top of the engine on these motors), which apparently in turn, via a sensor, tells the ECU to reduce the fuel being pushed through the injectors to stop it blowing the engine (apparently).
My question is, is the turbo a bolt on replacement fix with new gaskets of does it have to be tuned into the engine, say like a fuel pump.
If it is a bolt on replacement, it might be worth looking at the figues and doing the repair. Tempted to chance a replacement turbo from a breakers (watching one for £150) and his asking price is £250. It comes with MOT upto April 2010.

not done one myself but autodata say's its a 2.5hrs job to remove & install the turbo

Cheers John - On the surface seems feasible to have a go at doing it and making a few pennies.
If I decide not to go ahead, and anybody fancy's having a go, let me know via P.M. and I'll give you my mate's contact number. He won't be hanging about because he as already lined up his replacement BMW. Like I said, he'll be asking £250 for the car with MOT till April. I believe there is a bit of tax on it but I know he will be reclaiming or selling as an extra for the remaining time left. The car is drivable but does smoke a bit. Runs a bit rough where the ECU is cutting in.
