what engine

hi guys im looking at changing the engine in my fronty its a 2.4 petrol on an m plate lwb

now my question is what engine upgrade would be an easy swap as the 2.4 is just hopeless ?

before people say sell it and buy a different one i love me old bus and will not be parting with it

any input or ideas appreciated

You could get a 2.8 trooper engine and gearbox with ancillaries, should fit quite well, a few have changed the 2.3 to the 2.8.

i had a 2.4 i thought it did what was expected of it
it towed my caravan at 55/60mph it gave 22mpg & 25mpg round town & 28/30mpg on a run solo

what you want to remember is it weighs in about 1800kg it's not a sports car

personaly i dont think putting another lump in it will satisfy you as it wont be a cheap option

it would be easier to get a 2.8 td est

my 2.4 is sluggish im well aware of how much it weighs and that its not a sports car hence why i have a sports car for when i dont have the kids

im not looking for pros of keeping the 2.4 it is going its just a question of for what

the 2.5TD VM engine is the best of the lot IMO. its based on a marine engine and will happily chug along forever (providing you look after it!) . Changing from petrol to diesel you would probably be best off with a donor vehicle as you would need engine, loom, gearbox, possibly fuel tank, external fuel filter housing that bolts onto bulkhead, exhaust system. Dont know if it has a different radiator though. The diffs also have a different ratio for petrols and diesels but I cant see that being a problem anyway. You could always try the omega 2.5TD engine. Its a BMW straight 6 block and pretty good. Probably get that to fit!

If you want an easy life, get yourself a MKI Trooper 2.8, should be a straight forward nut n bolt conversion with all the bits n pieces you need plus the axles will fit giving you the right ratio's etc

you could swap the engine and box and leave the petrol axles on. You would get more torque as they are geared for petrol engines but the diesel engine would rev a little higher. I would do that personally instead of having the hassle of changing the axles
