Head gasket 2.2 i petrol 02

Just a quick shout for help,
I have decided to remove my cylinder head as the head gasket has given up the ghost.
Try as I might and with some success the head is nearly moving off.I was advised to leave the carb intact on the head and disconnect all conections to it and remove carb/manifold attached to head. This I have done but cannot get to the bracket below the carb chamber no matter how I try.i can see a bracket connecting the carb chamber to the block but cannot reach it no matter what.Does anyone know if it would have been easier to just remove the carb manifold from the head. Any advice would be greatly recieved
