Thermostat part number please

Postby olympus16270 on Sun Aug 23, 2009 4:41 pm

I will be changing the antifreeze before winter sets in as it can get really cold over here although it's 39c outside right now, and I am not sure of the part number for the thermostat assy on my year 2003,2.2 petrol sport, engine Y22SE.
Is it necessary to replace the thermostat and housing or just thermostat?in the old days it was just the stat.
Merci beaucoup mes amis,
John

Hi mate. The thermostat is buil into the assembly on those models. Although QH(quinton hazell) do a kit which is QTH600k which will just replace the element. But to be quite honest unless the stat has failed then there's no need to replace it. We normally sell the complete assembly for £26+vat.

BUMPTJ,
thanks for that m8.
It gets so hot here in Summer and the electric fan often runs on for a couple of minutes after switching the engine off,not sure if this is normal or a sign that something is not quite right.
The temp gauge appears to read normal but there have been stories posted about innacurate gauges so I can only assume it to be accurate,no other sign of running hot other than the fan running on.
Would there be any benefit to removing the stat and leaving it out.(then I would have to replace it for winter though)
I know the antifreeze has not been changed for 2 years so playing it safe and changing it.

Hi mate, it's quite common for the fans to run on after stopping. My missus's megane does it all the time. If you take the stat out then the engine will struggle to get upto proper running temp and will just end up causing more problems than it is worth.

Another quick question please.
What size star socket is reqd to remove the thermostat housing?
Things over here are either not easy to find or mega expensive if i know the size I can look around.
Many thanks,
John
