Oil filter change on a 2.8

Done a oil change on the 2.8 for the first time today and I reckon that tops the chart for the most awkward place to position a filter. Might be an easier way, but I found I had to jack the car up, crawl under the front transfer box, use a socket extension bar for the chain filter wrench then when it does undo, be quick with a container to catch the oil as I threaded it between the front prop shaft and torsion bar on removal.
I did think to myself how many 2.8's are around from not so enthusiatic owners that didn't bother changing the filter.

This seems to be a popular complaint, as it is on 3.1 Trooper too. I've never really had a problem, dunno why, granted it is tight by the torsion bar. A tip for the drips is too get some card or similar ( I use an ally printing plate, cos I can ) cut to shape and it will run down this quite nicely.

The 2.5 can be a pain too, as you have to remove the bottom radiator hose to get the bugger out. And as it sits side on, you get oil everywhere. Lots of cleaning up afterwards.

Did you get hot oil down your arm pit? regular swearbox filler the oil filter.

Dont have any tips unfortunately. Contemplated puncuring the bottom of the filter and letting it drip for a day, but always punt for getting grimy in the end.

I use same as Drift, much easier. the only mess is when I spill it afterwards, after being so clever and careful!

I also have the same drift but as the drive will testify it didn't stop me making a mess :oops:

I stick a bucket or washing up bowl under it no mess and clean arms.

BUT last oil change I had my sump drain plug fitted, brilliant straight out the hose into the container....... perfect except I hadnt realised I shot a hole through the bottom of the washing up bowl while I was trying to kill a rat :oops:

oil everywhere :oops:

But the good thing about the drain kit is that you only undo the hose and the flow stops, so no fiddling getting the plug in to stop the flow.... could have been a lot worse without the drain kit :lol:

I'll have to get one of them there tripods. Like a p**t, I didn't put me goggles on and have now got a very sore right eye but I am wiser for the next time.
