How difficult's a head gasket on a 2.8??

I know I've got me shorty, and just put in some elbow grease liftiing it, but I miss having a LWB and I was just thinking about this one...

Actually, I suspect the question ought to be, how expensive is a headgasket to get done?? Cos I really do not have the know how meself.

parts including head skim about £150 -£200

head gasket is about a 5 to 6 hr job @60ph

so with head skim and parts about £500-£550 in a workshop you should have motor back within 2 days

Hmm, rather tempting that. I might have to keep an eye on this, thanks for the info Smiffy...

Course, the other option'd be to save some pennies up and chuck a Trooper 3.1 into the SWB perhaps.

2.8 is a lot better than the 3.1 fuel wise and not a lot less power, wouldnt be worth the effort to change

I was looking at that aswell. As a non runner though it is pot luck as to whether it is only the gasket gone or does it have other issues.
