a rumbling i will go...

I know this is a technical issue but not sure where its coming from so unable to post in relelvent section....

My sport has a rumble from the rear offside.

The best way to discribe it is a cross between a knocking cv joint on a "normal" car and one of those rolling things they walk along with to flatten tarmac.

Its louder under power, quieter when coasting but still audible. IT has no effect on driving the truck and causes no problems.

Any ideas?
Bearing? Drive shaft? diff? Trapped squirrel?

I had a look, but to my untrained eye nothing looked out of place....

rear bearing maybe :wink:

best way is to jack it up remove the wheel and drum and feel for play in the half shaft itself :wink:

if it is the bearing its not that bad a job with the bearinator :wink:

Remove roadwheel.

Loosen the handbrake shoes using the adjusters on the back of the drum. This loosens the shoes so they dont catch on the lip inside the drum as the drum will have worn somewhat.

Tapping the back of the drum with a mallet or hammer it should slide off. May be stiff though.

Remove handbrake springs, shoes and wot nots remembering how it all goes back.

Attach The Bearinator to the hub using wheel nuts and slide the half shaft out.

Cut the old bearing off.

Fit new bearing by tapping and generally being patient until it all goes back together again.

At least thats the short version.

Honestly dave its not that bad really. It looks worse then it is. I changed CC's bearing on the drive in a little over an hour or so.

Not easily I shouldnt think but we have a bearinator at my house if your coming up for the undersealing party.
