a good week!!!!Wow this week is looking up....firstly car had its MOT this morning, passed with no faults!!!!! secondly on the way home came across a car that had broken down, me being in a good mood decided to ask, if they wanted a tow. Turns out the live about a mile up the road. Anyways give them a tow, they our very happy to be home, and give me a bottle of wine. when I leave there house about 300 yards down road I see a sign that says byway. I start to investigate, turns out to be a 7 mile boat which runs parralel with main road I use for commute to work. after checking on way finder and with council on definitive map, there is no TRO's in place on it, so give it a go, after a hundread yards of itchy scratchy stuff it opens up into a really picturesque dirt track, which goes on for seven miles, then at other end you get another 50 yards of scratchy stuff. all in all a really good fun green lane, which being fair there is occasions would actually get me where I want to go, quicker than if I used the main road!!!!!!!!!!

Re: a good week!!!!Cool; just don't tell anyone;
oops; TdoubleO late; Use it but don't abuse it. Late edit:- I'm a Farmer and it cost us everything we had to buy this place but people from the town think that they can just wander about on my land and pick mushrooms and at christmas feel they have the right to cut holly and sell it. I don't mind if they ask and don't hack the tree to bits, but when I say "Oi that's mine" they get really shirty. If I was to pick just one flower from their garden they would go ape. Just remember, the countryside is someone's livelihood and little lanes are still there 'cos he needs to check his sheep etc. and is not going to be a happy chappy if it is suddenly turned into a tank training course. If you need something done quickly just ask a busy woman then get the f"k out of her way.
Re: a good week!!!!I used to take a "short cut" when I used to live in maidstone and work in rochester, up a byway....
Boss got the hump though about the amount of mud I used to drop in the office car park and eventually banned my car from site! (got own back by parking my fourtrak on top of a huge pile of rubble every day from where they were still building the estate, which was right outside his office window...he got fed up lookin at it so bought a pressure washer for us to use....top man!!) Was nice though to dive off the traffic on the main road, and in not even minutes, being in another world! Will try with the company Astra one day!!! Well done mate... Oh by the way is that track still open that runs from bexhill near the retail park where maccy d's is (but from out of the back of the nearby housing estate) and comes out in st leonards behind the garden centre on the a259??? That was a good short cut, and a bit of fun...especially in a 7.5t iveco 75e15 box truck!! Water got really deep down there in winter! Re: a good week!!!!I think the point has been missed a little here.
Gareth, well done on finding a new lane and on your towing ability Frenchfarmer, Byways are classed as roads and are subject to the same rules and regulations as tarmacked roads so he wont be infringing on anyones personal property, or at the very least if he is then he will have a legal right to drive it. Obviously there is a certain responsibility here, ie not racing down the track and being mindful if it does pass through someones property. Right, Il get off my now
Re: a good week!!!!Wow, I didnt expect to create such a hot topic, firstly just to clear something up, I drive very responsibily when green laning, 20mph is where my limit is, and for that speed it has to be near on tarmac. I am not in the habit of spoiling a good thing for all, by racing along a byway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyways thanks for the comments about the car passing its MOT, its now done starship mileage, and going strong, the only thing to have ever gone wrong with it (other than consumables), is the damm injector pump, cost me £600 to replace, but being fair thats not a bad price for 9 years, and nearly 400000 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2000 2.2 tdi limited LWB.
Re: a good week!!!!400,000 miles in 9 years
Good to hear that it's going strong mate, and a great find regarding the byway The greatest lesson in life is to know that even us idiots are right sometimes
