4 wheel drive...?is it just an urban legend or does the fronty use more fuel when in 4 wheel drive high???? if so whats the % difference?
Re: 4 wheel drive...?i would say so as it has to turn a extra 2 wheels
not sure about the fuel but woldn matter that much you woldn be using 4wd unless in muck ect...
Re: 4 wheel drive...?thats what i thought then but if it's driving 2 more wheels surely it's taking the load off the other 2 ???? doesn't it even itself out?
also, in 2wd is it front or rear driven???
Re: 4 wheel drive...?the engine has to work harder to drive the two other wheels more fuel used
in 2wd its a rear wheel drive
Re: 4 wheel drive...?It will use slightly more fuel whilst in 4wd as you will probably be on rough slippery terrain which in itself will use more fuel.
When in 2wd its rear wheel drive Ramsgate, Kent

Re: 4 wheel drive...?It depends on the speed and the amount of revs you use, if you drove around all day on loose ground in low or high box 4wd you can you can tootle around and hardly use any fuel.
When in 4wd you are not usually travelling at any great speed so you wont be revving as high to move the car save the occasional blip on the gas to get over an obstacle or muddy patch. If you are in 2wd with your hubs locked at normal driving speeds you will use a tad more fuel, not because you are driving the front wheels as you should not be in 4wd you will be in 2wd but you will have created a little more drag on the front do to the drive shafts being locked to the front wheels, though no drive from the engine is going to them. Getting a percentage comparison between 4wd H/L and 2wd usage would be nearly imposable due to the many many variations involved. Re: 4 wheel drive...?just wondered for everyday driving, on the normal tarmac roads what the difference would be in using 2wd rather than 4wd an vice versa...
an i'm sure mine is fwd in 2wd mode but could be wrong....... not tried to drift it yet lol
Re: 4 wheel drive...?Dont use it on tarmac in 4wd, you will blow the diffs, transfer box and wreck a multitude of components with wind up .
Oh its a rear wheel drive car with part time four wheel drive Ste
