New owner for Vx / Opel???

Anybody been following this story at all??

GM seem to be offloading a few divisions at the moment - Saab's been bought out, and now it looks like VX / Opel could be sold too. See this BBC clicky link for a bit more about it. Be interesting to follow this, I reckon, what with one thing and another...

GM had the option to buy Fiat about 5 years ago, but balked and bought out of the deal. There's a plant for one of Magna's subsidiaries, Intier Auto Interiors, about 5 miles from my place; supplies the Ford Transit plant in the city.

So, does anyone think this will have an effect on us, and our group of aging Vauxhall / Isuzu motors??

Fiat has shown interest recently. I suspect that if the deal goes through then it will mean an end for whats left of the spares that VX still sell for our motors leaving us with pattern parts or used spares.

The terms for buying GM Europe (which includes VX/Opel) is with the existing group relationships intact. Don't go panicing about things that are still in the negotiation stage as the VX/Isuzu relationship will still exist and the new owners of VX would be insane to stop that relationship as they get much more than fronty parts from them

Heard today on radio 1, that the deal with Fiat will not be going ahead now!

Auntie's website reckons Magna is now the "preferred bidder", and Fiat has stated that the German gov'ts plans were too much, heh...

Side note, GM is supposed to go into bankruptcy protection on Monday. Not entirely unexpected, TBH...
