Farm jack?

Hi to one and all
just aquired a farm jack foc off a local old boy , unused and still in box was told when he dragged it off his mobility scooter

says got no use for this so thought you maybe able to use it

, have never used one before so maybe you could help ?
by answering some questions on this ?

1) where can i use a jack like this?

2) are there any good places to jack a frontera using this?

looks a good piece of equipment if can work out the best places to jack on??
sorry to ask maybe a silly question( hopefully not) but dont want to damage or injure me or fronty

ok thanks as have worked out rear can be lifted by using towbar , didnt even know there were holes for jack under bumper lol

You have to be careful when using a farm jack/hi-lift as they are inherantly unstable:

They can also be used as a come-a-long hand winch:

As Trugga pointed out they are inherently unstable and should not be used to jack your vehicle up unless absolutely necessary.

When using the jack ALWAYS keep hold of the handle as if it is let go before the ratchet mechanism has a chance to lock it, it can and will swing back and hit the jack with force. It can break bones and disfigure faces.

When the vehicle is jacked up it is advisable to keep the handle in the upright position and secure it to the forged section with a bungee cord etc.

Farmjacks are used to winch, lift, pull, lower etc and a typical jack is rated up to 3 or 4 tonnes.

Always keep people away from you when working with a farm jack, as they are quite unstable they can 'pop' out and spring away from you.

There are no jacking points on the frontera apart from the rear towbar as you have discovered. You can use the round chassis protrusions on the front of the vehicle but I doubt the suitability of these points as the tubes arent very deep.

Another example of their use: Say you are stuck in deep ruts you could jack up the front of the vehicle so the wheels clear the ruts and push the car sideways, this will hopefully leave your car with the front wheels straddling the ruts and you can repeat for the rear wheels allowing you to continue. Again be wary of the jack as it can spring out when the vehicle is pushed sideways.

Read the instruction manual thoroughly and familiarise yourself with all the working parts. There are plenty of tutorial and safety literature available on the web.

Just a few pointers in addition to Phils comments especially if you are on soft ground

Use some wheel chocks to stop the truck moving

Don't lift it using the centre of the towbar, getting both wheels off the ground by this method is very dangerous and won't take much to have it fall sideways

Get a jack pad, highlifts on soft ground will sink, you can buy pukka plastic ones but at £35- or so they are expensive, I made one for nowt out of 3 pieces of 3/4" shuttering plywood glued and screwed together with a cut out for the foot

Have used mine as a makeshift winch using some shortening chains, slide waffle boards under the wheels when stuck in the mud, fit body lift pucks as well as changing wheels. Did try to use it as an engine crane once but failed :lol:
