OBD2 code reader

Postby vaux_2 on Tue Apr 21, 2009 12:56 pm

Hey all, was wondering if somebody could tell me if the "scangauge 2" reader will work on my fronty (2001 2.2DTi)

http://www.ukobd.co.uk/gstore/store/g_viewItem.asp?idProduct=90

I emailed the site but the response i got back was that it only works on diesel models after 2004. I'm guessing this is a standard response since obd2 officially applies to...

Petrol cars in Europe made for sale on or after January 2001
Diesel Cars in Europe made for sale 2004 onwards

Does anyone have one of these?

Theres also a kit available to mount it above your rearview mirror which sounds appealing.

Thanks,
Iain

(wasn't too sure which section to post this in so apologies if you have to move it mods)

Hi vaux...2

it might be because the early 2.2 DTIs does not store the fault codes

The fact it can be mounted and used as a trip computer as well makes it sound quite good. it costs £125 but this is the cheapest price i can find it for.

May have to take a gamble and try it out if noone can help me out, just have to make sure they will do a refund if it doesn't work!!!

At a guess I would say that it would have some functions but not all, this would be even more so if there is not a genuine Vauxhall (VDO) radio fitted,as the radio wiring is part of the OBD test circuit.

I've still got the original vx radio fitted, never quite got round to getting a new one.

Anyhoo, after emailing UKOBD for more info and getting a rather condescending email back i decided not to use them.

I've gone and bought one of these from talktomycar.co.uk......

http://www.talktomycar.co.uk/products/codereaders/mj006.htm

When i searched for a code reader that i'd read about in another thread on here this came up as a newer replacement. Says it does OBD2 compliant cars later than '96 so a good start :)

I'll let you know how i get on with it when it arrives in a few days.

Well i received my code reader today so on my way home from work decided to try it out and see what it could tell me. Going up a hill i got the eml on again so i checked (whilst driving) to see if there were any codes and there weren't any?!? This is whilst the light was still on as well! Are there any faults which can cause the light to come on but not produce any codes?

Within the code reader there is a section of component checks and the only one that says "incomplete" is for the EGR. Gonna try taking out the EGR and cleaning as in A friend's "how to" post to see if that make a difference. One thing i was wondering, i can take out the valve and clean that but what about inside the housing where the valve seats? (not sure what the correct term is for that...manifold? ) Will that not need cleaning too? Sure i read something about this on another vauxhall forum ages ago.
