catsCan anyone tell me if theres a company that still make cats for the 2.8. as i can only find cats to fit the 2.3 2.5 2.2 diesels but no one seems to list the 2.8. The only alternative seems to be finding a simular sized cat and welding it in. Any ideas.
Re: catsForget about it and weld in a straight through piece of pipe, its not actually a catalytic converter on the 2.8 its a particulate filter, so if your engine is in good condition you wont have any problems with the MOT.

Re: catscat not avaialable by timax or bosal the two largest aftermarket makers but like drift says you will have no problem at mot time without it as the fitment of cats to diesels is not an mot requirement ( I works as a tester) and the emission test for diesels is only a measure of smoke levels and not CO, Hydrocarbons and Lambda as in a petrol engine so best think and cheapest option is to remove it, might even gain a few ponies

Re: catsyes and yes
The emmision limits are the same for all diesels regardless of age (except for pre 1960) After 6 free accelerations, the mean of the last 3 smoke levels is: a. for a non-turbocharged engine, more than 2.50m-1 b. for turbocharged engines more than 3.00m -1 and no requirememnt for pussy cat or particle filter to be fitted 2.3 td lwb know died and resurrected on an Asda shelf near you

thanks
Re: catsRoo,
They are used to control emissions and are now a legal requirement on all uk cars. Unfortunatley when the gov were deciding how to control emissions they could either buy into the German testing program with a sparkplug in the exhaust to reburn the gas or follow the U.S. cat system. As were too tight to do our own testing we bought U.S. research and went cat. The US research was done in a nice hot desert where cats work nice. Here in the UK it can take half an hour for one to warm up to the point it does anything and some days it wont ever warm up. For us, because its a brittle honeycomb its a nuisance that can fracture and break up, restricting airflow and performance. By pulling it we loose weight and regain performance. Re: catsDoes that mean then they are not as accurate, if they can take up to half an hour to get warm, so does that mean, that a vehicle could pass or fail its MOT say, if they haven't heated up correctly? The reason why I ask is because it would take me 15 mins to the MOT Test Centre..
Many Thanks Regards Roo
