Can anyone Help!!!

My wife came home in her zafria 1.8 petrol today saying the car has lost power and is struggling to start :cry:

So i took the car round the block.
the car really struggles to accelerate and hesitates. the car also has a warning light on the dash and when checked in the book it says its emissions fault and should take it to vauxhall asap

Just thought i would try my luck on here to see if anyone has any ideas.

Mass Air Flow Meter ( MAF ) faulty sounds a likely course, if Im not mistaken the 1.8 is not to dissimilar to the 2.2 Frontera engine.

How old is the car? Lambda sensors have got alot to answer for. If the car is newish, get in, put your left foot on the brake and push the throttle to the floor with your right at the same time, then turn the ignition on but don't start the car. If it has the same set up as my astra you will get the fault codes displayed where the milometre is. Write them down and post 'em up.

Emissions fault is normally measured by ECU pre/post cat & is generally gobbledeegook for ... stuffed lambda

Well drift you was spot on

did not manage to remove the air mass metre due to me having a trapped nerve in my back but did remove the pipe and gave it a good spray with wd 40. a few turns of the key later the car was running perfect and even the warning light went out.
I have give the car a run around the block and all seems well but still slightly hesitating on start up so think it may need changing or there may be a gremlin in there somewhere will just see how it gos for now. drift when i see you at bala will have one of these :drink:
