'95 Isuzu Bighorn/Trooper/Vauxhall Monterey Feedback please.

My neighbour has, rather blindly, bought an N-reg Isuzu "Bighorn" 3.1TD.

Now it's my understanding that it is probably an import being that the Bighorn was only sold in Japan from '92> and that it is still a Trooper/Monterey by everything but name?

I was wondering if people could give some of their experiences of the Bighorn/Trooper/Monterey, especially the 3.1TD.

Its essentially the same as the 2.8 engine just a bigger bore and a bit thirstier.

Check the chassis for rot as this is a weak point on the Troopers, most other things like the suspension are the same as our A series Fronteras.

It's not to my liking but she seems happy enough with it at the mo.

The interiors seem better quality that the early A series and feels lots more solid, 3.1 engines are more powerful and allegedly quieter than the 2.8's. They also have useful cubby holes in the boot area for stashing stuff which the Fronty A doesn't. The other improvement over the Frontera is their axles which are stronger and lots of the Trooper II's had LSD's from the factory

But rear chassis rot is rife, get it checked and treated pronto and rumor has it they are heavier

i like the trooper its the chassis rot that puts me off them , and not being able to find a decent manual one.

a while ago a chap came to mine in a trooper an older one and got me to have a look around it because the steering was shall we say a little vauge,it was a lwb gold I was quite taken with it,then i noticed the back wheels looked like they were steering to the left i looked underneath and the chassis had totaly snapped in half,good knows what he had been doing in it :lol:

We have the same chassis, just thank the gods BIC in Luton used a better grade metal :shock:
