With rear seats down the SWB has a lot of room, but obviously the LWb has even more.
MPG doesnt seem to be much between the wheel bases, the diesels do better on MPG then the petrol and in you price range the 2.2 petrol is a wary one, they do have weak engines mechanically, but a good one is good all round.
Obviouslt any pre 2000 car will be cheaper taxation so a nice late A 2.5td might be a catch.
Fronty no.4, pimp mobile Treg 3.2 LWB lifted 2.5"
Fronty no.5 2.8 swb hd coils +2" 31"machos.

Hi Ollie. Well mate they both have there merrits. Both vehicle's the back seats fold down so realy its up to you. On the merrits of offroading I would personaly go for a short wheelbase but others might have a different oppinion. Ive had a cement mixer in the back of my shorty and i pull a caravan. If you look on Flee-bay and on Auto Trader it will give you an Idea of whats available for your money. Ive just purchased this little Jem off e-bay for £450 with some tax and test, i love it to bits. It will be getting modified. So mate the choice is your's!!! Good luck.

Firstly hi and welcome to FOG, i am a DJ and i carry alot of gear as you can well imagine my truck is a 93/94 2.3TD LWB and i can get all my gear in and still have room for extras and when i'm not using it for Disco gear i also carry BIG bouncy castles in it with ease and that includes the blowers tiedowns etc and bouncy castles when folded up weigh a hell of a lot but my suspension doesn't budge and at the moment its all standard and the 2.3 is a good strong engine and after remedial work is always reliable

well i have had the 2L sport swb, and love it to bits, wife made me get rid of it as she couldent drive it, few years later i got a 2.3td, and she has done well, for her age, but now i have a 2.8 swb aswell i havent been out in yet, but will do soon,
like it has been said before, seats down on the swb gives pleanty of room, and the lwb just gives about an extra 24" there abouts, they all do well on fuel in there own right,
i had a washing machine in the swb and three engines in the lwb
but there are plenty to chose from, engine wise
oh and they only done the 2L,3.2 and the 2.8td in the swb, i think, and 2.2L, 2.3TD, 2.4L, 2.8TD, 2.5TD, 3.2L in the lwb
flying solo, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
