When the earth warmed up after the ice age who got the blame for that? We werent driving around in cars then or burning coal or oil in power stations.Global warming is a natural occurance, the earths temperature has been gradually changing whether it be up or down for millions of years.

So, as for a scam, they may well have a point!!! :clap:

As that story pointed out its all down to scientists wanting grants to fund their projects which in turn keeps them wealthy and then they become political and the government's get greedy wanting to tax the perceived cause of global warming by introducing a tax on carbon emissions, which the scientists keep feeding the Government's what they want to hear thus the scientist keep their funding government's keep taxing.

Then when it was pointed out to one American presidential candidate ( Al Gore ) that his belief in the scientist was flawed, by the scientist that gave him the information in the first place ( said scientist was at that time retired so didnt depend on Government grants) he told Al Gore the information that Carbon deposits was flawed and Global warming could be a natural phenomenon as the Carbon deposits would not significantly make any difference to Global warming, Al Gore said "they where the ramblings of an old man " who indecently he used to look up to.
This was to make political gain and levy higher taxes to swell the Government coffers, after all they have a war to fight half way around the world, who taxes Governments :roll:

What's up with u some of u? Global warming is a misnomer... should be called climate change. It leads to increasingly haphazard weather events, including MORE unpredictable cold weather(snow). Average global temperature warming is only one visible effect!

Some people argue about the CAUSES of this change, but the fact that change is happening is undeniable. I mean those who side that 'climate change is not caused by fossil fuels but is a natural cycle' are entitled to their view, but do we really WANT climate change??? Do we really want extreme weather and a large dispora of peoples right around the world?

The same argument happened once re the hole in the ozone layer. there was the view that its is NOT caused by cfc's. But does that really matter? Why not stop the hole opening up? There was consensus on this and the hole was repaired.

You forgot to mention the convenience of Climate Change due to global warming, = $$$£££ in Governments coffers.
Thats the real reason the phrase exists and they make VAT and othe tax cuts but tax us in other ways, Green taxes :evil:

When replies ensue that 'I had 30ft of snow, so where's the global warming' it prompts one to react. Global warming is a SIDE-EFFECT of climate change!

Politicians are, by definition, corrupt. In fact it is a very human flaw. That's why, arguably, communism didn't work. I agree with you that there is a green bandwagon out there. Whenever I hear people loosely using the expression 'carbon footprint' for just about everything, I cringe. Are we going to lose sight of the actual problem?

We don't have to change our habits drastically. One doesn't have to feel guilty about owning a 4x4. Just to act in unison against this threat. It may well be that the warming was going to happen anyway, but maybe we are acting as the straw that breaks the camel's back? More general research / emphasis on a consensus is needed! With so many vehement sceptics out there anyway (including my own grandfather), I dont think articles like these are going to do any good at all!

As stated, 50/60 years ago industrialised towns and cities in Britain had a smog problem, this is now only confined to major industrialised areas in some Asian cities and Eastern Asia, and maybe one or two in America.
But we never get a " pea souper " here very often, once every two years maybe, but 50/60 years ago people where actually dying from the pe soupers in London, Im sure in one year it was in the thousands.

We dont burn coal to heat our houses like we used to, we nearly all have very efficient cars in comparison to the 70's and 80's.

Have thousands died since in smog ????, Asthma, yes is a major problem and should be dealt with, but the air now is better, those that could have died are surviving, thats not to say we cant improve, but we can improve at a lower cost than the profiteering politicians make us believe, because it makes more money to tax people on their carbon emissions than it does to actually do anything else about it .

Fact we are carbon dependant to a high extent, fact we should reduce, fact air quality is better in this generation than the last 40 years , fact Governments make more money from "Green taxes " than ever before, some cynics say that the " green tax " is only there to subsidise other tax cuts , your call :wink:

Hmmm, Global warming is a side effect of climate change? Actualy it is a side effect of trying to reduce polution.

Years ago factories and power plants etc had no regulations about what polutants they could pump out into the air. This was causing a cooling of the worlds climate due to the vast amount of air born polution acting as a heat shield and reflecting the suns heat back out into space. So the world was slowly but surely getting cooler because less heat was making it to us.

Then the governments decided to step in and stop all this polution as it is obviously bad for the world (something I for once agree with) and as the carbon scrubbers and more efficient processes were introduced to industry the level of polution in the atmosphere started to reduce, thus allowing more of the suns heat to reach the earths surface, thus causing the world to warm up. We are still as yet to reach conditions that will match pre-industrialisation.

So, clean up the air, the earth gets warmer, to cool us down mess up the air (very simplified view of the situation but not far from accurate). I remember sitting in school as a small kid being taught about the greenhouse effect of polution, how it was trapping heat in the atmosphere and was going to cause us all sort of problems int he future. I have always had a very logical brain and asked why if the polution was trapping heat was it still allowing the suns heat to get in thus making the world warm up and was told not to talk rubbish as I was too young to understand (my next question of why if I was too young to understand was the teacher trying to tell us about it got me sent to the headmaster for being cheaky, never start a logic argument with a 6 year old

). Actually my question was right as the polution was reflecting more heat from the sun back out into space than we were producing and trapping inside down here.

Climate change is actually a very natural thing, the world does go through cycles (hence the ice age and subsequent warming of the world). It will carry on no matter what we do. If you want to blame humans for it try looking at the fact that the last erruption of mount Etna put more polutants into the air than the developed world did in the previous 50 years. We may be having a small effect on the process in terms of the timescales but we are not the cause and we never will be. Trying to stop climate change is a pointless task and a waste of time, but that is my opinion based on the rubber band theory of natural occourances (the longer you try and stop a natural process from happening the more nature is stretched out and under strain so the more violent that process will be when it finally does happen and naturs snaps back into it's correct state).

Yes, we should stop using fossil fuels, not because they cause polution, but mainly because they are a finite resource that will run out one day. We are currently at the point where we MUST find an alternative that is viable else we face disaster. we should look after the world and stop dumping chemicals etc, not because the world is going to warm up but because I happen to like nature and the beauty of it and I want my kids to feel the same.

I wish the scientists and politicians would stop using what is a natural process to try and raise votes and blame everyone else for the problems of the world. Be sensible, tell us to stop poluting because they want to keep the world a nice place to live and not a major chemical dump, tell us to drive less because it will slow the rate of oil depletion not because the carbon emmisions are going to kill us. Stop telling us to wrap our kids in cotton wool and not expose them to anything like dirt (my generation grew up playing in the mud and enjoying it, and we are healthier than any child these days whose parent freaks if they graze their knee and covers them in disinfectant every night).

its all a farce , an excuse for more taxes . wasn't the first ice age caused by global warming ?and at the end of the day whilst china and india (and probably america)
. are kicking out their emissions whilst manufacturing their countrys products and we in the ec are governed by the co2 limits than we'll never be a competetive or productive nation again, needing to buy the things we used to make from the countys that are the worse pollutants .
