Getting the most from your battery

In these cold and tough economic times, finding the cash for a new battery can be a real pain.

Reading through the Frontera Owners Manual [the one you get given when the car is new], they recommened a way to make the Battery last longer, it goes like this. ' When starting the engine, depress the clutch pedal so that trasmission resistance is eliminated and the starter motor and battery are relieved'.

Thats my money saving tip for 2009, hope it helps you save some money and make your battery last a bit longer ....... :idea:

Assuming yer battery is good and the car breaks down in the middle of a road,(run outta fuel or similar), put gearbox in first and spin the starter motor whilst slipping the clutch. The car will creep forward to a safer position.Dont do it for too long otherwise you will knacker the starter motor. My handy tip for2009 especially for the ladies who dont like pushing their car in high heels

l like that idea of useing the starter motor and slipping the clutch to crawl across the road in your car brachunky. But there is something to be said for a lady in high heels pushing a car ............ :!:

dont use slippin clutch its bad for clutch n stupid leave clutch out and turn over engine..starter way easier to fix than clutch n saves a fortune

Doesn't work quite so well if you've got an auto.

Used to do the starter thing quite a lot once, had an electric fuel pump that kept going to sleep so had to wack it with a spanner to wake it up.

Funny thing, only used to happen at traffic lights, roundabouts, jucnctions.......
