2.8 td found in scrapyard

I dropped in to the yard closest to me while fetching oxygen and found a 2.8 td the same colour as my 2.3 td lwb.I am thinking of replacing my spare carrier arm with a door.The engine looks like its all there except for a bit of tube on the top.They want £40 for the door shall I offer them £100 for the whole thing and end up with a 2.8 engine and a spare frontera to take bits off or get back on the road? Its got no wheels or springs and looks like it was hit from the passenger side as the door is badly dented and the screen is badly cracked.Its done 240,000 miles.I could store it at my workshop yard and could organise to borrow a trailer to fetch it on.Is it possible to put a 2.8 engine into a 2.3? Its very sad to see this other one looking so abandoned but I must be sensible.Any thoughts anyone?

engine swap to 2.8 is possible but expect they would want more than £100 for full car as even though scrap metal is down in price t the moment its still about £55 a ton and a fronty weighs virtually 2 ton and they prob know the engine alone is worth 300+ for a 2.8 isuzu lump

offer them the money you can always sell the parts off your self for a small profit swap the engine and sell yours. Even if they say no you haven't lost anything

With 240k on it I personaly wouldn't bother, if the engine has had its life, as the rest of the car sounds as though it has, you are left with an engine that you can't use anything from. I would look for a 2.3 as a donor if that is what you have.

Thanks for your thoughts and replies.I think they wont accept £100 but whole 2.3 Fronteras have been going on ebay for not much more recently.Probably the sensible thing to do is just to get the door,that is probably more than enough to be getting on with.barryc sorry not to have come back to you about your 2.3 bits the prices of which are (were?) very reasonable I am just not sure about what to.I am not noted for my quick decision making I keep thinking about a 2.8 ,but my 2.3 is going ok at the moment and today got its m.o.t. with only a mention of a bit too much smoke and a note about a wheel bearing a little bit loose.How are you getting on with your new 2.8.? thanks again chaps.

2.3 its normal to smoke a bit dont worry about it, the bearing get it sorted sooner rather than later as they can be a pain when they are to far gone but are very very easy to do when not so far gone :wink:

I would say better the devil you know if the old girl is going well, 2.8's are not immune to faults :wink:

I have got to say being in Ansdysd1's 2.3 a few times they are a rather good motor and pull a lot better than I ever gave them credit for

Andy said when we where in convoy the other week I left him, but sitting in his it seemed powerful enough and smooth, engine had a nice wirrr to it reminding me of a touring bikes engine, mine sounds .. well like a 2.8 happy to be loud :lol:

Ahh, managed to get back to the computer at last the children are all in bed and wife is watching something.Thank you for all your thoughts and encouragment they are greatly appreciated.And thanks Drift for the warning about the wheel bearing not being left too long. I expect I will stick with enjoying what I have as long as it carries on doing what I need it to.
