I will probably get shouted at for this suggestion, but if you don't have access to a diagnostics setup then try taking it to PC World, tell them you just want to know what is not working so you can buy the parts and fit them yourself and they will do a test on the whole setup and tell you what is not right.
Once they have done that take the base unit, walk out the door and get in your car and go anywhere else to buy the parts as you will save yourself a fortune  (Not that I would advocate getting PC world to do work for free, it is not a nice thing to do, but hey, they deserve it for working there and ripping off the unsuspecting innocent public )'99 3.2V6 Auto Limited.
Some day it will be how I want it to be...
