Possibly a blocked breather pipe.
Basically, it does what is says, always allows the tank to breathe. Easiest way to explain is you put a 2 litre plastic pop bottle to your mouth and suck ...... bottle will collapse in in itself. Try the same thing with a hole drilled in the bottom.
If the breather is blocked, your electric fuel pump will just keep pumping cos the engine wants the fuel, resulting in the tank been emptied of fuel but the empty space not been replaced by air, resulting in the same idea as the pop bottle.
Have you notice a "hiss" of pressure when you have been taking the fuel cap off?
