Postby stefan on Sun Jul 27, 2008 4:19 pm

hi everyone
having shifted my sport  , i have been contemplating my next move
i would like to go for a newer model(as late as possible) :D
has to be a lwb
not sure which is best though
would consider diesel or petrol
anyone out there any recommendations :?:
what to look out for in the later models
are they better or worse than the A series
thanks in advance

Hi Mate, I was in that situation a couple of months ago, I found out a couple of things, if you buy a Fronty registered after I think it's March 2001, next year you will be paying about £ 400 + for road tax, unless this new bill is scrapped but you never know with this mickey mouse governemt. I really liked the look of the SWB 2,2 DTi, so I went to look at one in Derby, I bought it, I can honestly say it's a real pleasure to drive.

There are some cracking deals to be had on LWB versions, take one for a test drive, you will be pleaseently surprised at how they handle.

In my humble opinion the Mk 1's are good vehicles and they drive like a typical 4 x 4 but the M 2's are a bit more refined a drive more like a car. Good Luck in your search. ATB. Reeco

hi
the car tax thing is a bit of a concern but if you want something bad enough you just have to pay up
if i was going for a 53 2.2 td whats the top rate i should be paying
i have just done a quick trawl through ebay and there is quite a difference in prices asked, mainly by dealers
i will need something a bit more refined as this would be the only car a shall have.It was fun having the sport but in the current economical climate (as they say) not a viable option

if it's economy you're after, dont go for the 3.2 V6 cos although it is a lovely motor, it dont half drink it! I would go for the 2.2 dti LWB which from a dealer for a 53 plate, you will be looking anywhaere between £5,000 and £7,000. To be perfectly honest, you could pick up a W, X, or Y reg Olympus Limited which has all the bells and whistles for a fracftion of that price and still pay less tax than a mondeo

The latest 2.2dti are the best as all the fuel pump and other niggles where ironed out its was hitting perfection engine wise when they stopped making them

The B series sit a little lower than the A's and under body protection is a bit less but they make up in other ways, thats not saying they cant be tinkered with and the make great green lane cars with just a change of tyres.
