oh dear

had a lovely drive over to millford today and went for a wimpy we go over the chase parked at the wimpy and was intriged by the smell of petrol from my car, so a quick look underneath made me panic. On the drivers side the two bolts had vanished????????????????

and the tank had dropped down pulling the fuller pipe loose, oh did i mention i had just filled it brim full so a very gental drive home and two new bolts later and a refitted filler hose. and you could probably have followed the petrol trail back home. But where did the bolts go i was sure i tightned them up last week or maybe not its the only thing i can think of.

how exposed is your parking space at home ......is it possible for someone to have tampered with the bolts

i did think of that as no thread has been stripped and all the other bolts i put back in were really tight still but didn't think some one would be that mallicious .

You'd be surprised at what some folk are capable of :twisted:

Put some thread lock on the new bolts :wink:

They will loosen with a spanner but they wont shake loose

I had fuel stolen from an old fiesta supersport i had years ago by the scumbags pulling the fuel pipes from the twin choke webber and then syphoning the fuel from underneath.
I started the car drove less than 100yards and then it exploded as the fuel pump was still feeding the pipes on the hot engine. Fuel bowls obviously held enough for that distance!
Lets say i removed myself pronto from the car but the girlfriend froze as the edges of the bonnet where consumed with fire and the footwell filled with smoke.
I assisted her out and because i had left it in gear and the wiring loom burnt first it started moving slowly down the road churning on the starter motor.
We were both alright but the firemen informed us that 3 others cars (All Fords had gone the same way the evening before or that morning.
Glad your allright.
But it is worrying.

Watch of for the little gits drilling through your fuel tank, remember no danger to petrol as its plastic
