You know how it is, you go outside to check summat on the car. In this case clean up around the all the calipers. Took the wheels off and had a look at the brake pads and by golly green stuff (or lack of) Batman. My EBC 7000 Greenstuff pads have worn away to nothing already. I only put them on before we went to Betys Y Coed for the weekend. So they lasted a sum total of what? 2 months or thereabouts. Surely this cant be right? £68.00 they cost for the front and rear. Iv had Halfords pads that last longer! Luckily I kept my old pads as they werent that worn anyway and Iv put them back on. I only wanted the EBC pads to go with the braided brake lines in the hope I would get some serious stopping power. While they did work reasonably well on the car I dont think they were worth the premium.
Then while I was poking around the front end I have worked out that I have properly blown the front diff. There is a big hole in the bottom of the diff casing and it looks like it was caused by something inside bursting outwards. Although the lack of grinding noise is baffling me. So Im figuring it will be easier and cheaper in the long run to source a 2nd hand diff from somewhere.
And while poking about at the back end I have a weeping rear diff cover from where a rock or some such has pulled the lip away from the diff casing. Iv tightened up all the bolts and hammered the lip flat against the diff cover again. Il have to keep an eye on it and if it keeps weeping Il take it off and check it properly and see if I need a new cover or just a reseal.
Also got round to checking the Prop shaft bearing and I definately need a new one. Plenty of play in it when wiggling the propshaft from side to side.
Its all a big pain in the bum and I wish christmas would come early now.
