Axle seal or brake cylinder

Postby brachunky on Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:53 pm

Some of you might have read that Im struggling to get a brake drum off(still battling  ) cause I thought that the brake cylinder was leaking.But....tanight I gets under the fronty and sees that it may be an axle seal :? Thinking about it,the fluid smells a bit "diffy" :D If it is the seal,i dunno what has caused it to leak.
If it is the seal(opinions wanted please!) at least I can do Farley after topping up the diff oil.

I would expect the leak from the brakes to be on the other side of the disk guard :(

Rub a small amount of leaking fluid between fingertips, then compare by the same method brake fluid or EP 90 whichever you have..........It`s a basic viscosity test..............As the two fluids in question are so different it should be obvious which is leaking..

Not that I can tell. I only use the fronty for a bit of laning &p&p's so would not really notice yet. I dont have to pump the brakes at all.Either way,its got to be fixed when the drum decides to give up its grip   im going to do the taste test A friend is on about
