Postby mad malc on Mon Apr 07, 2008 5:33 pm

right ive got a 2.3td 92 j plate been running fine and loving every second im in it i go every where in it even to my local shops which is 5mins walk away lol
i had a slight problem sunday night it went to fire up and then just cut out on me and i now its not the alarm imb if you know what i mean
started checking her over found that there wasnt a lot of resistance on the pump which sits on top of the filter so pumped it a bit and battery started going so got a jump start from my dads jeep and finally fired up but it seemed like it flooded its self as once she fired it chicked out loads a smoke ? which it only does normally in the mornings  and a bit of info i did park it on a incline with tank at the lowest part and engine up the hill so was just wondering if any one else has had this trouble if so how do i fix it so it dont happen again (apart from facing the other way on the hill )
just to be clear it dont do it on level ground and this is the first time tsa done it ever ?

any help would be great

on update on what ive found ::

right ive found a small leak ill try and explain where it is :?:

right you have got the diesel filter and housing with the main feed in to the top of the housing then you have the feed out of the filter which has a join about an inch down the pipe and this is where ive got a leak from the join and its only slight leak :x

would this cause air to enter the system :?:
as when its been sat all day at work i can press the pump no problems but once it fires up and is running the pump is really hard to press if at all
would it just be a case of getting a new pipe joiner and some new clips to sort it out :?:
also would i have to bleed the system after as its the main pipe out the filter if so how can i do it :!: :!:

pleasse some advice needed malc

had a similar problem to this on my 2.3 a few years ago it was caused by a loose fuel joint so it could be your problem as for bleeding fix and try it first it might fire up with whats left in pump if not crank engine over with somone slackening the union on each cylinder injector in turn to check diesels getting through
only dead fish go with the flow!(2.3 im in no rush)

fuel system has to be air tight if you have a leak no matter how small then air will get in and cause your fuel to run back to the tank or empty the filter just enough to give you problems when trying to start it .
