That "paperclip" trick...

Postby Wilberforce on Sun Mar 16, 2008 9:57 pm

I'll lead with a grovelling apology, but I have a non-Fronty (albeit Vx) question to ask...

My flatmate's got a V-plate 1.0 Corsa which has refused to start today, and is playing disco with the Engine Management light. Anyone know if it possible to pull the paperclip trick on these things, and if so where's the diagnostic plug?? If I remember correctly from doing it on my previous 2.2 engine, it was behind the O/S headlamp, and you had to short pins 1 and 2??

As Carl said I don't think that it will work on newer engine

one of these could be the problem

Common problems are: 1. Air Flow Meter 2. Temp Sensor, 3. EGR Valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), 4. Idle Air Control Valve.

Idle air contol valve is the most likley suspect so probably check that first

Well, thanks for the replies guys... I'll have a squizz under the bonnet in daylight tomorrow, and see if I can see anything...
If not, well, at least i'm 100% that I can tow the offending car to the mechanics, hehe
