More nearly-newbie advise please

Sorry to keep pestering but I am trying to figure out the cost of getting some work done on my yet to arrive Frontera.

Beiefly took a look at a car and test drove it, got back and before handing over the deposit checked with the dealer that the new MOT had had no advisories issued. I was told no and went ahead and left a deposit signing that I agreed to the contract etc etc. Sensibly I took a note of the MOT number and have just checked it online to see that an advisory was issued (twice as it faile dinitially on brake pads (they claimed disks!)). It's for the following:-

o/s & n/s front shocker slightly reduced damping effect, n/s front shocker slightly worn runner bush & finally front parking brake ratchet mechanism slightly worn.

Any ideas how much these will cost to get fixed? Should I claim a breach in contract, try & get teh deposit back (£100) & look elsewhere bearing in mind I only have 2 weeks left on the current motors MOT? I've agreed to pay £900 for the car so maybe a few quid spent now on these parts & a serice wont be too horrendous and pay off in running costs.

New shocks, even uprated shocks can be got for as little as £37 each and are really easy to fit.

The ratchet might not be the problen, the cable could just need adjusting under the car, another easy job :wink:

Nothing scary there. All wear items, no nasties.

Dunno where you are but you can for a donation ask a more experienced member to give it a once over if you are worried about buying a lemon :wink:

Well thanks a lot for the advise, it's settled my mind and hopefully it wont be too costly to get sorted by my local garage. I think I wont start looking for somethign else, the drive was fine and the car even did a hill start when this numpty slipped it into 3rd by mistake (after putting it into 4wd to listen for nasty noises!).

Little rust on wheel arches wasnt too scary, afterall for teh money I wasnt expecting perfection, I just want fun and am hoping that it wont be too refined to drive (my current Cherokee is an ugly crude sod and in the 3 months I've had it I have never enjoyed driving so much!)

oh yes, jsut thought of something else which the dealer couldnt answer!

Beside where the radio fits there's a switch labelled "sensor", when "on" a led lights up. Any ideas what it is for, I downloaded the manual (thanks to whomever let it be availablew here) and nothing is indicated.

I'm hoping it's a "BMW nearby" sensor and that when enabled it will seek them out automatically and ram them off the road

that switch is for the alarm

Probably not but I can dream, will just have to do it manually for now :twisted:

Yep! Not far nor fast but just to ensure it went in OK (& out)

30 yards in a straight line, cant see a problem. I drove my Cherokee a lot further last week on the roads in 4WD after I came behind a Clio sliding all over - Jeeps can be slipped in on the go. Since then I leave it in 4WD overnight so that if the parking place is icy I can just set off then knock it out when I feel like it!

Unsure what the panic is over 4WD on the road, if a Justy can do it...

did drive for a bit in 4h, is that going to cause any problems, also my 4x4 light dont come on

You will feel the steering tighten then you may hear some awfull crunches so you should be ok :lol:

It never worked in my old sport Andy, if 4wd engages then it will just be the buld or the wire loose

Demand the dealer gives you a £100 discount because they technically breached the contract and lied to you.

See how you go, and print off the info you got re the advisory when you go there, the other option is tell the dealer that they told you no advisory so now it's up to THEM to rectify all the things on the advisory because your buying a vehicle which has NO ADVISORY..
