Just as well that you didnt stay till monday mate, as first thing monday Badboy had to do some more reversing to hook up his caravan....
....far safer to have your car in another country when that happens!

It was good to get out and talk cameras, unfortunately, that particular session was a little difficult (no cloud), although I managed to get this out of it:

@ JEOH

Good news to hear that you and Marrion (I hope I got Mrs H's name right) arrived home safely after your epic journey, without any problems from your radiator.

Having read your report back to the Opel forum, your enthusiasm for your visit to the "island" shone through. It looks like a number of members are now regretting not joining you.

I had to offer you a ride round the play area, afterall, us soft top owners have to stick together (being a minority  ) - I think you enjoyed it.

It was great to meet you both and share a few stories around Baz's washing machine campfire. I look foreward to the next time our paths cross.

Oh, and thank you for my present :D

Kindest regards to you both

Hi fellow foggers

I would like to extend my thanks to everyone involved for making this weekend happen even though I spent most of it repairing my
drowned 2.8. I still had a fantastic time sharing a few beers and laughs with everybody. Anyway the course of events for me were as follows:

Arrived Friday afternoon at approx 2pm and set to getting all the camping gear up and giving away the fog expressed bits I had on board.
Then it was :drink: o clock, so got straight in and tanned a case of old speckled hen :oh yer:
Saturday morning arrived and not a minute too soon either coz I froze my nads off that night it was freezing. so off i went on to the course, Colley
I think only a couple of other trucks were actually out there at the time so had a little jaunt round some of the tracks. Then I came to the water
hazard. Firstly I just cut across the shallower part just to test the water so to speak and it was all good. So with that in mind I thought I would give
the deeper part a try, I didnt want to go straight in to the centre so thought it would be best to just go through the side. Big mistake, dropped the
drivers side straight in to 3 feet of water drowning the air box and getting totally stuck. Colley to the rescue, dragging me back out whilst the engine was
still running. As soon as the truck was back on level ground I was getting alot of shouting "SWITCH IT OFF", the water that was in the air box was now being
sucked in to the engine. I switched it off just in time before the engine was completely goosed. Colley then very kindly towed me back in to the camp site
and that is where the old girl then stayed for much of the weekend. All of this happened within 10 minutes of getting out there. After this my good friend
Gregster and I started to work stripping out all the induction parts to reveal just how close I came to going home on the back of a flat bed. The air filter
was full murky water and the intercooler was brimming with the same. :? Not knowing how far in to the engine this stuff had got we then removed all
the glow plugs and spun the engine over to expel any water, cylinders 2 and 3 had plenty of the dirty stuff in there but after 5 mins or so it was all out.
After all the induction parts were flushed out an dried the reassembly began. Finally it was all done, NOT. She wouldnt fire up and so then began the next phase, repriming the fuel filter didnt work so greg slackend off the the injector pipes and bled them. Bingo, she fired up and that I thought was the end of it.
No it wasnt coz I went back out for another play on the site and thats when the smoke and noisy turbo reared their ugly heads. So back to the camp site I went. It was the general consensus that an oil and fiter change was in order but that was going to have to wait till tomorrow.

On the sunday Simo, Gazeddy and myself had a drive out to get said parts but could only get the oil and filter at that time due to hellfrauds not even listing a fuel filter so we went back to the site to get to work on the truck. I drained the oil out in to a container that our Roo kindly lent me and then Bobbinsjob said to me that he knew a place to the fuel filter that was only 16 miles from the site. So Drifty, Bobbins and me drove the 45 miles to wilco's (Bobbins nav skills werent doing it that day) to get the said filter. We all headed back and went to get started and Yaki came over and said "sorry I left your toolbox in such a state" I asked what he had been doing and he said " I have done your oil filter for you". How top was that? saved me a job I didnt fancy. Anyway all filters now changed and engine running again but still not quite right. Drifty tells me "Dont worry about the smoke it will clear on the way home"

Well it did, and my old 2.8 is running better now than it ever has  Strange thing aswell, the turbo now is virtually silent and the only time you can hear it is when the engine is switched off and it winds down.

My Biggest thanks must go to:

Gregster for getting stuck in and helping me get my motor going again
Simo for driving me to get the parts
Jontera for giving me a new air filter
Yaki for changing the oil filter
Drift for all the advice and again for driving me to get parts
Colley for the tow
Anyone else who helped me, I really appreciated everyones help I couldnt have got home without it soThank you all!

I only really got a couple of vids but Gregsters I think you will like :D

 Thats how you do it ....NOT

Like the vid round the woods too Kel... 8)

I reckon you won yourself some good Karma with your engine, by being part of the REDNECK engineering team, doing the gearbox end bit on Bobbins truck when we employed the REDNECK "washer bottle pressure washer" to clean out his clutch...

Glad I could help get your truck sorted fella  ...and we now know the solution to the chinese puzzle that is getting the intercooler back in again!

Well done Krusher, glad that smoke cleared. Must of been residual water in the bores and exhaust. I did have a novel time Sunday with various people coming up to me asking if I had certain tools ... including Yaki for the oil filter remover strap. Very useful on the 2.8 though mine points upwards behind the turbo not down at an angle like the Frontera. Even more fiddly.

Must say to a variety of people Thanks for making the Trooper boy welcome. Made me miss my old 2.3 LWB though.

A huge confidence boost from quite a few people (Gazeddy, Fogman, Sir-Doris, amoungst others) who told me that I shouldn't go anywhere near the play site as my truck was too clean and I didn't deserve that kind of treatment.
Yaki for the cylinder head (watch this space or one almost like it for that plan to hatch  ), and throwing me out of the passenger seat on the playsite. Your truck is a monster!
Sir-Doris for scaring the holy bejeezus out of Mrs RatCav   Again your truck is simply awesome, and was great being a passenger around the playsite.
Robertmillsav for taking Mrs RatCav out laning and not scaring her at all in the slightest. She thoroughly enjoyed it and hopes for some lanes with less gates in next time. Also cheers for taking my CB base unit and offering to have a look at it for me.
Drift and Wilberforce for the Memory Map advice (I looked but didn't touch your Inclinometer Drift, though it would look better in an Isuzu :D )
Roo for the generous lending of the hose to all and sundry for radiator cleaning etc.
Whoever it was doing the cooking Sunday night, will admit to pinching a burger and hotdog

And the FOG Annual Meet organisers in general for sorting out what was a great event (even though I was there for only one day) Next year I will bookmark the weekend and attempt to stay longer and get to know you all!
